VMY GREECE| INTERNATIONAL VINCENTIAN YOUTH DAY & WORLD YOUTH DAY 2023 EXPERIENCE
The International Vincentian Youth Meeting (IVYM) and World Youth Day (WYD) 2023 in Lisbon were two transformative experiences for participants from around the world especially for our group, VMY Greece. These events provided opportunities for faith, connection, and personal growth.
VMY Greece had a good balance of first and second-time attendees, but for all of us, WYD in Portugal was an overwhelming and positive experience. It was a chance to connect with a global community of like-minded individuals who shared their faith. Despite the physical challenges of carrying belongings and having to sleep on the floor, we found the journey worthwhile. Some of our most cherished memories include taking part in multicultural Masses, experiencing the overnight vigil with millions of fellow youths, and the warmth and friendliness of everyone we’ve met. The “City of Joy” event was also a highlight, providing a platform for open and friendly conversations. Many of us expressed gratitude for the opportunity to attend and a desire to participate in future WYD events.
The IVYM offered a more intimate setting, allowing for easier socialization and personal growth. Our pilgrims found it to be a less physically demanding experience compared to WYD, which allowed us to step out of our comfort zones and make new friends from diverse youth groups. The IVYM reinforced the importance of faith and community and helped deepen our connection with God.
Overall, both events left a lasting impact on us pilgrims. We discovered the joy of sharing our faith with others from around the world, transcending the challenges we’ve faced along the way. These experiences were a testament to the power of faith, community, and personal growth, and many of our participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of these transformative journeys.
