The International logo of the VMY was developed in the year 2000 by Manuel Martín García, a former member of VMY in Spain. The logo was made public on the international level during the First General Assembly of the Association which was held that same year.
It is inspired by the reverse side of the Miraculous Medal, the emblem of the Association as indicated by the International Statutes.
The symbolism is the same as the Medal: the cross represents Christ; the M intertwined represents Mary at the foot of the Cross (John 19:25) and expresses her relationship with the Redeemer. The twelve stars represent the apostles and the Church gathered in the Cenacle around Mary (Acts 1:14).
With regard to the colors, blue and White represent the Marian colors. The letters J and V together with the monogram of the Medal refer to the origin of the Association, which took place during the first apparition of the Virgin to Saint Catherine Labouré in 1830 at the Mother House of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, Paris, France.
The official logo at the international level is that of JMV, since these initials are common in three of the four official languages of the Association action (Spanish, French and Portuguese). In 2005, following a proposal from VMY in United States, the International Council approved the English version of the logo as a sign of union among the English speaking countries.
In 2007, the Superior General and members of the International Council gave permission for the logo to appear on the back of a special medal. Members receive this Medal on the day of their Marian Consecration.
