ETHIOPIA | DEVOTION TO THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL
The progress of the VMY in Ethiopia is thriving and the youth community is growing. November is particularly significant as it is dedicated to the Miraculous Medal, and there exists a profound devotion to both Mary and the Miraculous Medal within the Ethiopian Christian and youth communities.
VMY stands firm in its unwavering belief and dedication to Mother Mary and the Miraculous Medal. Our parishes regularly engage in the prayer of the Rosary and contemplate the significance of the Miraculous Medal. The Miraculous Medal has been a source of profound miracles in Ethiopia, deeply touching the hearts of the Catholic community.
Catholics in Ethiopia exhibit a strong attachment to the Miraculous Medal, often wearing it around their necks. It holds a significant role in the sacrament of baptism where priests present it to both children and adults following their baptism. In a remarkable tradition, when a priest consecrates a new church location, he reverently places the Miraculous Medal alongside the cross at that site.
The Miraculous Medal, worn by Catholics, often becomes a symbol of inspiration for others, leading them to explore the Catholic faith. This phenomenon itself is a testament to the miraculous nature of the medal. In times of adversity, Christians clutch the medal in their hands, seeking Mary’s intercession through prayer, and many have reported receiving answers to their pleas. Even during periods of illness, individuals have experienced recovery after touching the medal and offering prayers for Mary’s intercession.
The profound devotion to the Miraculous Medal is so profound that, during trying moments in their faith, many Christians have a deep attachment to the Miraculous Medal as an act of commitment and sacrifice, as exemplified by the Modiyo Kaffa Martyrs during the reign of the Kaffa king.
We stand united in both prayer and service, bound by our devotion to Mary and the Miraculous Medal.
