What does it mean to open our heart to mercy?

11/03/16

On December 8th, 2015 Pope Francis initiated the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy.  As members of the Church, the Vincentian Marian Youth echo this call of the Pope and WE OPEN OUR HEART TO MERCY.

What does it mean to open our heart to mercy? This is a twofold commitment for the members of the VMY.  The word “mercy” is derived from the Latin: miser (wretchedness, unfortunate) and cordis (heart).

To open our heart is to commit ourselves to experience the suffering of others.  Therefore, every member of the VMY is challenged to open their heart in order to live and feel and assist other people in their time of need.  How can we do this?  The Pope wants to awaken our conscience and in a very practical manner places before us the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.  Do you know them?  Do you practice them?  Here is a list of these works … OPEN, THEN, YOUR HEART TO MERCY…
